The Bloody Pond

This small pond remains one of the most memorable and poignant tour stops at Shiloh National Military Park to most of its visitors.  During the battle of Shiloh, soldiers from both sides came here to this pond to drink from the cool waters and bathe their wounds.  After the Union counterattack on April 7th, many retreating Confederate soldiers and horses died in this pond, their blood staining this water a dark and sickening red.
